Description: The UAMS/Schmieding Center is a premier, community-based center on aging, established on January 1, 1999 as the first center of excellence in geriatrics as part of the Arkansas Aging Initiative. It was born out of benefactor Lawrence H. Schmieding’s quest to enrich the lives of older adults through empowerment, understanding and quality home caregiver education. Their mission is to improve health outcomes of older Arkansans in our region through interdisciplinary clinical care and innovative education programs and to influence health policy at the state and national levels with emphasis on care of rural older adults.
